“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows…”
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer has what I would say, the most famous and well known Red Nose in history. Today, I’d like to bring your attention to another Red Nose. It’s really not a singular Red Nose, but millions of Red Noses, that have been changing the world, one at a time, for the last 25+ years.
Each year, people are encouraged to let their silly side come out while fighting against poverty. Red Nose Day is a national campaign dedicated to helping children and ultimately, having fun. To create awareness and lot of laughs, participants purchase and wear Red Noses. Proceeds benefit both children in the U.S. and some of the poorest communities in the world.
To join in on the fun, and because this cause is so near and dear to our hearts – or, maybe our noses – we’ve created our own little video. Check it out below!

Globally, Red Nose Day has raised over $1 billion dollars since it’s start. In 2016, all funds raised, will be divided. Half of the money raised will be spent in the United States, while the other half will be spent in the poorest countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
In the United States it costs:
- $1 to provide a meal for a child in a Homeless shelter
- $5 for medical supplies for a Doctor’s visit at a mobile Clinic
- $7 for books, supplies, and activities to help with reading
- $35 for an eye exam and glasses for a child in need
This year’s National Red Nose Day will be celebrated on May 26th and will culminate in a national TV broadcast special that will air on NBC from 9pm-11pm.
Red Nose Day began in 1988 in the United Kingdom, as a way for people to come together to raise money and awareness for needy children across the globe. It is held annually in the United States, every other year in the U.K, and is run by Comic Relief Incorporated, who have independent sister organizations in the United States and United Kingdom. Though independent, the vision they have is a shared one; a world free from poverty.
